Upgrade
Process:
1.
Obtain the new Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment or
Tivoli Provisioning Manager for Images full build for the platforms used in
your environment. If you are unsure, download all platforms.
2.
Unzip all .exe files (self-extracting Windows 32-bit and 64-bit
installables) to obtain the required .msi files. If you want, you can delete
the .exe files.
3.
Place all the Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment or
Tivoli Provisioning Manager for Images installables (tar.gz and .msi files)
into the $TIO_HOME/repository/tpmfosd folder (for Windows,
%TIO_HOME%\repository\tpmfosd).
4.
Run TPMfOSD Version Discovery to discover the Tivoli
Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment or Tivoli Provisioning Manager for
Images installables. For doing this, click:
Go To -> Discovery -> Provisioning
Discovery -> Discovery Configurations
This will discover the Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment or Tivoli
Provisioning Manager for Images installables that you have placed in the
repository, and will also create Tivoli Provisioning Manager software products
that represent the new versions of Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS
Deployment or Tivoli Provisioning Manager for Images.
5.
Stop Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment on all your
Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment servers, except the one running
on the local Tivoli Provisioning Manager server.
6.
Perform the following:
a.
[Windows
only] In Tivoli
Provisioning Manager, run a Software Product Upgrade for Tivoli Provisioning
Manager for OS Deployment on the local server:
i.
Click Go to -> Deployment -> Software Management -> Software Product
Upgrade.
ii.
On the Software Product Upgrade page,
select Tivoli Provisioning
Manager for OS Deployment as the software to upgrade. Select the target computer, which is the local Tivoli
Provisioning Manager server. Then, select Upgrade
to a new version as the Upgrade
method. Click Submit.
This will upgrade the local Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment
server to the new version you have selected.
b.
[UNIX
or Linux] - For
non-Windows Tivoli Provisioning Manager servers, the upgrade of the local
Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment server must be done manually
since Tivoli Provisioning Manager does not have root access to the local
system.
i.
Stop Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment (stop the
rembo, rbagent and dbgw processes).
ii.
Untar/gzip the new Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment or
Tivoli Provisioning Manager for Images installable onto the Tivoli Provisioning
Manager for OS Deployment install directory (overwrite the old install with the
new one).
iii.
Start
iv.
Run the TPMfOSd Version Discovery (Go To -> Discovery -> Provisioning Discovery -> Discovery
Configurations) to ensure that Tivoli Provisioning Manager is up-to-date
with the new version that you upgraded manually.
7.
Run the Software Product Upgrade for
all the other Tivoli
Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment servers in your environment. This can be
done for all server types:
Click Go to -> Deployment -> Software Management -> Software Product
Upgrade.
Note: If the local Tivoli Provisioning Manager
server is not the parent server, the parent server must be upgraded before any
child servers. Upgrade the Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS Deployment
servers one at a time.
8.
The new version of Tivoli Provisioning Manager for OS
Deployment and Tivoli Provisioning Manager for Images uses the WinPE 2 engine
for Windows deployment.
a.
To create a WinPE 2 engine:
i.
Install the 32–bit
Windows Automated Installation Kit version 1.1 (WAIK), which is a free utility
provided by Microsoft for Windows systems. Ensure that your system has the Web
interface extension installed and running.
ii. Log on to the Tivoli Provisioning Manager Web interface. From the start menu click Go To -> Deployment -> OS Management -> Software Modules. Click New Software. Select A Windows 2000 / 2003 / XP software module, then click Next. Then, select A WinPE 2 engine for OS deployment server ramdisk image, then click Next. Follow the remaining wizard instructions to create the WinPE2 software module.
