What's in this README

This README file describes the required WebSphere Commerce 5.4 Group Program Temporary Fixes 6 (referred to as the Group PTF 6) on WebSphere Commerce for IBM eServer iSeries 400 systems. The Group PTF 6 includes updates to the following areas of WebSphere Commerce: To order the Group PTF 6 for an OS/400 V5R1M0 iSeries system, order PTF SF99231. Applying this Group PTF 6 will display a SF99231-06 level in the SF99231 data area.

To order the Group PTF 6 for an OS/400 V5R2M0 iSeries system, order PTF SF99232. Applying this Group PTF 6 will display a SF99232-04 level in the SF99232 data area.

You should read this document before applying the Group PTF 6.

APARs addressed by the Group PTF 6

To view the complete list of platform independent APARs fixed by FixPak 5.4.0.6, please refer to the README for FixPak 5.4.0.6 AIX, Solaris Operating Environment, Linux, Windows NT, and Windows 2000.

Installing the Group PTF 6

If your WebSphere Commerce system does not have any WebSphere Commerce instances at the time that the Group PTF 6 is applied, then no special instructions need to be followed.

If you have an existing WebSphere Commerce 5.4 instance when applying the Group PTF 6, then you must complete the special instructions in PTF SI11125 for each instance.

Note: For WebSphere Commerce Professional Edition or WebSphere Commerce Professional Entry Edition 5.4, once the Group PTF 6 has been applied (along with the previous Group PTFs), the following PTFs will remain in a state of "Save File Only": SI11449. These PTFs are only intended for the WebSphere Commerce Business Edition. No further action needs to be taken if you are using the Professional Edition or the Professional Entry Edition.

When applying the FixPak 5.4.0.6 PTFs, the following entries are recorded in the file /qibm/ProdData/WebCommerce/wc.ear/properties/com/ibm/commerce/version.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE websphere SYSTEM "version.dtd">

Uninstalling the Group PTF 6

If the Group PTF 6 needs to be removed, complete the removal steps found in the special instructions in co-requisite PTF SI11125.

Duplicate record checking with ID resolution

Previously, the Loader package resolved IDs and loaded data without inspecting the incoming data for duplication in the target database. Consequently, database tables could be updated without changing the contents of the database. However, the Loader package reloaded data that already existed, which negatively affected performance.

In order to improve performance, the Loader package now eliminates duplicate XML elements during ID resolution. You do not need to use any new parameters for this feature. When you use the update or mixed method with the ID Resolve command, the ID Resolver automatically recognizes XML elements that are duplicates of existing records in the database. The duplicates are not written to the output file specified by the -outfile option. The Error Reporter from the Loader package writes the duplicates to the xxx.error.xml file (where xxx is the input XML file name without the file extension). The entries in the xxx.error.xml file are made without counting the duplicate elements as errors.

Each element is checked for duplication by comparing that element’s attributes to the corresponding columns in the database table. An element must always contain all of the attributes required by the DTD. However, elements may also contain optional attributes. When checking for duplication, the ID Resolver uses all of the attributes contained by each element: if any attribute is different, the element is not considered to be a duplicate.

When you use the mixed method with the ID Resolve command, only elements which are not applicable for insertion are further processed to check for duplicates, which increases the efficiency of the process.

Duplicate record checking is not performed by the ID Resolver when you use the load method because the loadable elements should not already exist in the database when you use the load method.

Note: Relationship elements (such as cattogrp and catgrprel) may not be reported as duplicates.
