Preparing the Web applet installer

IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce can be installed through a Java applet served from a Web server. This section describes how to prepare the Web server to serve the IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce installation Java applet.

Once prepared, users can install IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce by entering the HTTP or HTTPS URL provided to them in their Java-enabled Web browser.

Prerequisites

Procedure

The Web applet installation can be interactive or non-interactive. Refer to the one of the following sections depending on the type of Web applet installation you want to prepare.

Preparing the interactive Web applet installer

To preparing an interactive Web applet installation, do the following on the Web server machine:

  1. Copy the contents of the applet directory from the IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce CD to a directory under the Web server root directory.
  2. If necessary, configure the Web server to serve this new directory.

Users can now perform an interactive installation through a Web browser by using a URL that points to a setup page in the directory on the Web server to which you copied the applet directory from the IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce CD.

The setup page that the URL points to depends on the language in which you want to perform the install. The following table lists the setup pages available by language.

Language Setup page
Brazilian Portuguese setup_pt_BR.htm
English setup.htm
German setup_de.htm
French setup_fr.htm
Italian setup_it.htm
Japanese setup_ja.htm
Korean setup_ko.htm
Spanish setup_es.htm
Simplified Chinese setup_zh.htm
Traditional Chinese setup_zh_TW.htm

For example, if C:\wwwroot is the root of your Web server and you copy the files to C:\wwwroot\salescenter, users would use the following URL to start an interactive installation in English:

http://http_server_host_name/salescenter/setup.htm

If your Web server is SSL-enabled, you can also have your users use a secure (https) URL. For example:

https://http_server_host_name/salescenter/setup.htm

Preparing the non-interactive Web applet installer

To prepare the non-interactive Web applet installation, do the following on the Web server machine:

  1. Copy the contents of the applet directory from the IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce CD to a directory under the Web server root directory.
  2. Copy responsefile.txt from the root of the IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce CD to the Web server.
  3. Update responsefile.txt with the installation parameters.
  4. Modify the setup files as follows:
    1. Open the setup page for the language in which you want to make the browser based installation available in a text editor.

The following table lists the setup pages available by language.

      Language Setup page
      Brazilian Portuguese setup_pt_BR.htm
      English setup.htm
      German setup_de.htm
      French setup_fr.htm
      Italian setup_it.htm
      Japanese setup_ja.htm
      Korean setup_ko.htm
      Spanish setup_es.htm
      Simplified Chinese setup_zh.htm
      Traditional Chinese setup_zh_TW.htm
    2. Locate the following text:

      <param name="silent" value="">

    3. For the value parameter, specify the location of the responsefile.txt file relative to the setup page.

For example, if responsefile.txt and setup page were in the same directory, you would have the following:

      <param name="silent" value="responsefile.txt">

    4. Save your changes and exit the text editor.
