Advanced orders Event-driven payments examples

The following examples illustrate how payment amounts are handled in various order situations.

Some of these examples illustrate a single order release; others show multiple releases. (For a definition of an order release, see IBM WebSphere Commerce Glossary.)

These examples are provided to help you understand how target states of payments are achieved with various payment methods and how releases play a role in event-driven payments processing. The examples are simple; actual ordering situations can be more complex.

For a description of the meaning of target states in these examples (such as, DNE, Approved, Deposited), refer to the online help provided for the payment rule.

The "initial amount" mentioned in the examples is relevant only during the primePayment business event. Usually, the initial amount for an order corresponds to the dollar amount of the order items already available in stock when the order is captured. The initial amount never changes during the life cycle of the order. The event-driven payments subcomponent performs payment actions to achieve the desired target state for the initial amount.

References to "payment instructions" also exist in these examples. For more information about payment instructions, see Payment instructions.
