New Category

Use this page to create a new category.

Code
Type the category code, which uniquely identifies the category within the WebSphere Commerce system.
Display to customers (all languages)
Select this check box to indicate that customers can view this category in all supported languages for the store. To work in another language, click the Select icon, found in the upper left corner. Note that you can switch to a different language only if you are authorized to work with more than one of the WebSphere Commerce supported languages and if the language is available.
Language
Select the language for the category. If your store supports more than one language, create the category in the default language of your store first, before choosing an additional language.
Name
Type the category name. The name is language specific; that is, if the category is available in a store in both French and Japanese, and you want to change the name for both languages, you must include the new information in the Change Category dialog.
Short description
Type a brief description of the category. The description is language specific; that is, if the category is available in a store in both French and Japanese store, and you want to change the description for both languages, you must include the new information in the Change Category dialog.
Long description
Type a detailed description of the category, if applicable. The description is language specific; that is, if the category is available in a store in both French and Japanese, and you want to change the description for both languages, you must include the new information in the Change Category dialog.
Thumbnail image file and location
Type the path to the category thumbnail image and the name of the image. All image files should be placed in the store's defined image directory. As an example:

Full size image file and location
Type the path to the category full size image and the name of the image. All image files should be placed in the store's defined image directory. As an example:

WebSphere Commerce development environment\images\patio_full.gif The correct image directory and whether you need an absolute or relative path depends on your store's configuration. Ask a store developer with Site Administrator authority for the correct image directory. For example, the WebSphere Commerce starter store images use a relative path to the default installation path.
Display to customers
Select this check box to indicate that customers can view this category in the selected language only. The category's display status is language specific; that is, if the category is offered in a store in both French and Japanese, and you want to display it at both languages, you must select the Display to customers (all languages) check box.
