To validate the security key file that you just created in the previous step, you need a certificate from a certifying authority (CA) such as Thawte or VeriSign. The certificate contains the server's public key, the Distinguished Name associated with the server's certificate, and the serial number and expiration date of the certificate.
If you want to use a different CA, contact the CA directly for information on the procedure to follow.
- For Thawte users: refer to the information on Web server certificates at the following Web address: http://www.thawte.com
For VeriSign users: refer to the information on SSL certificates at the following Web address: http://www.verisign.com
Follow the instructions provided by the above CAs. Once you submit your request, your certificate should arrive within three to five working days. When you receive it, create the production key file as described in Enabling SSL for production with IBM HTTP Server, if you have not already done so.
