Tivoli Web Site Analyzer is an optional application included with WebSphere Commerce. WebSphere Commerce Analyzer can be configured to work with Tivoli Web Site Analyzer to produce additional reports.
While WebSphere Commerce Analyzer performs analysis on WebSphere Commerce data, such as marketing campaign analysis, Tivoli Web Site Analyzer collects clickstream data, such as the number of times a Web page is loaded, which URL the customer is referred from, or what type of Web browsers customers used.
If you install Tivoli Web Site Analyzer in addition to WebSphere Commerce Analyzer, you will be able to report on additional clickstream and site traffic categories. These additional reports are accessed through the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator or via third party reporting tools, as are the reports produced by WebSphere Commerce Analyzer.
IBM Tivoli Web Site Analyzer provides several data collection methods, including Web log analysis and Web Tracker, to collect clickstream data and information on static HTML pages. This data complements the data collected from the WebSphere Commerce database, such as the number of times an item was purchased.
Web Tracker uses single pixel technology to provide near real time information about site usage.
Single-pixel is enabled by instrumenting Web pages with a data carrier resource (an invisible single-pixel image). When the browser requests this page, it also fetches the data carrier resource. The request for the data carrier transports information about the page from the browser to the Tivoli Web Site Analyzer analysis engine, thus enabling Tivoli Web Site Analyzer to collect data in real-time.
In the replication and extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes, the clickstream data is copied from the Tivoli Web Site Analyzer project database to the WebSphere Commerce Analyzer data mart. Replication and ETL are performed on the Tivoli Web Site Analyzer database in the same manner as on the WebSphere Commerce database. On the WebSphere Commerce Analyzer server, the data from both sources is stored in the same data mart. Reporting and data mining is performed on this combined data. The business manager can view this correlated and combined information by using a reporting application.
In order to capture the session metrics data from Tivoli Web Site Analyzer, the data transformation, also known as the report database, must be scheduled to run on the Tivoli Web Site Analyzer server before running the replication and ETL processes.
