To support business-to-business commerce transactions.
Businesses seek e-commerce solutions that address their particular business or implementation needs. Usually, a business will match or vary only slightly from a business model. One such business model is the B2B direct business model. This model illustrates how a business might use an e-commerce site to sell to other businesses. The site may sell either goods or services.
Typically, B2B direct businesses have the following characteristics:
- They own and manage a catalog
- They control inventory arrival rates and the location of inventory relative to their fulfillment centers
- They manage their online relationships with their buyers
- They receive and fulfill orders
- They manage account and contract relationships with their buyers
- They allow buyers to request quotes on products or groups of products
Typical business pains include the following:
- Creating and maintaining presentable product data.
- Managing relationships with a number of different buyers
- Presenting buyers with product and pricing information based on who the buyer is
- Controlling inventory turnaround time
- Easy to learn administration
- Closed-loop marketing
- Out-of-the-box samples
