Before installing IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce silently, you must prepare a file that contains the information required to complete the installation wizard. This file is called a response file because it contains responses to the prompts of the installation wizard.
A template response file is provided on the IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce CD. The file is called responsefile.txt.
To prepare the silent installation response file:
- Gather the following information:
- Installation path
- This is the full path to the location where you want to install IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce
- WebSphere Commerce host name
- This is the fully qualified host name used to access to WebSphere Commerce.
- WebSphere Commerce port
- This is the port number used for communication with WebSphere Commerce. The default port is 443.
- (optional) Automatic update check
- Decide if you want IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce to check for updates when IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce is started. You can also enable this option on IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce after the client is installed.
- (optional) Update manager URL
- This is the URL from which IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce obtains updates. The URL can use any of the following protocols: File, FTP, HTTP, and HTTPS. You can also set this URL on IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce after the client is installed.
Important: Ensure that you include a trailing slash ("/") as part of the URL. If you do not include the trailing slash, IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce will be unable to find updates.
- Starting language for IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce
- This is the language in which IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce will display messages, menu items, field labels, and other elements of the GUI when the client starts. The language can be changed after it starts. The language is specified with a language code for the language. WebSphere Commerce Sales Centers supports the following languages:

- If you want to use the template response file, copy responsefile.txt from IBM Multichannel Sales Center for WebSphere Commerce CD to a location on the hard drive.
- Open responsefile.txt in a text editor.
- Update the options in the file as follows:
Parameters in the file take the following form:

These are the only accepted settings for this parameter. If you do not set this parameter, "false" is assumed.
Update Manager URL UpdateManagerInfo.UpdateURL -W UpdateManagerInfo.UpdateURL="ftp://ftp.updates.torolab.ibm.com/" Important: Do not forget the trailing slash (/) in the URL
Starting language LanguageOption.Language -W LanguageOption.Language="en" If no value is set for this parameter, the system locale setting will be used to set the language.
When you update the options in the files, follow these rules:
- Start parameter settings with -W
- Put a space between the -W and parameter.
- Put an equals sign (=) between the parameter and your value.
- Enclose your values in quotation marks (").
- If you have no value to enter, use two quotation marks with no space in between ("").
- A parameter setting cannot span multiple lines. It must be entered on one line.
- If you want to make comments in the file, put a number sign character (#) before the comment. If the comment spans multiple lines, each line must begin with a number sign character.
- Save your changes and exit the text editor.
