To start or stop an application server from a Windows command prompt:
- Log on using Windows user ID with Administrator authority.
- Start a command prompt session.
- In the command prompt session:
- Switch directories to WAS_installdir\bin
- Issue one of the following commands, depending on what you want to do:
- To start an application server:

- stopServerserver_name
where:
- WAS_installdir

The application server started successfully when the Server server_name open for e-business message displays.
The application server stopped successfully when the Server server_name stop completed message displays.
- Check the application server log files to ensure that the application server and the applications running inside the application server started or stopped without error.
Important:
- The status of the application server in the Windows services panel does not change when you start or stop the application server from a command line.
- If you start an application server from a command line, you must stop that application server from a command line.
