Perform the folowing steps to install Subsystem Device Driver 1. Configure the ESS and SAN environment. 2. Obtain the World Wide name of the Qlogic HBA you are going to boot from (the second HBA will not be configured at this time). This can be obtained by entering the Qlogic BIOS through CRTL+Q in the Adapter Setting Panel. 3. Boot the server you are setting up boot support for. Make sure there is only 1 path from your QLogic HBA to ESS storage. press CTRL-Q to enter the QLOGIC BIOS Fast Utility. 4. Select the boot support HBA. Select Configuration Settings. 5. Under the Host Adapter Setting Panel, Enable the BIOS for the adapter. 6. Under the Selectable Boot Settings panel, enable Selectable Boot. Select the first (primary) boot and press Enter. Choose IBM device and press Enter. 7. At Select LUN, choose first supported LUN, which is LUN 0. 8. Save changes and reboot system with bootable W2K diskettes or CD. 9. At very first W2K installation screen, press F6 to install third party device. 10. Choose S to specify additional device. Insert floppy disk contains Qlogic HBA driver and press Enter. 11. Continue install W2K as normal. Select first ESS volume seen by Qlogic HBA as the device to install Windows 2000 on it. 12. Install Windows 2000 Service Pack. 13. Install SDD and reboot. You may be asked by the system to reboot 1 more time. 14. Shut down the system. Connect FC cables from other Qlogic HBA to ESS storage. Make sure BIOS of this adapter is Disable. Add multi-paths to ESS. Restart the system. 2.1.1.2 Booting from ESS device with Windows 2000 and Subsystem Device Driver 1.4.0.0 using EMULEX HBA. Note: Automatic Lun mapping box of Emulex Configuration Setting needs to be checked in order to see all assigned LUNs. Perform the folowing steps to install Subsystem Device Driver 1. Configure the ESS and SAN environment. 2. Obtain the World Wide name of the Emulex HBA you are going to boot from (the second HBA will not be configured at this time). This can be obtained by entering the Emulex BIOS through ALT-E. 3. Boot the server you are setting up boot support for. Ensure that there is only 1 path from your Emulex HBA to ESS storage. Press Alt-E to enter the EMULEX BIOS Utility. 4. Select the boot support HBA. 5. Select Configure HBA Parameter Settings. Use option 1 to Enable the HBA BIOS. 6. Press PageUp to go back and select Configure Boot Device. 7. At List Of Saved Boot Devices, choose first unused one for Select Boot Entry. 8. Choose 01 for Select The Two Digit Number Of The Desired Boot Device. 9. Enter 00 for Enter Two Digit Of Starting LUNs (hex). 10. Choose the first device number 01 for Enter Selection For Starting LUN. Select boot device via WWPN. 11. Exit Emulex BIOS Utility and Reboot system with bootable Windows 2000 diskettes or CD. 12. At very first W2K installation screen, press F6 to install third party device. 13. Choose S to specify additional device. Insert floppy disk contains Emulex HBA driver and press Enter. 14. Continue install W2K as normal. Select first ESS volume seen by Emulex HBA as the device to install Windows 2000 on it. 15. Install Windows 2000 Service Pack. 16. Install SDD and reboot. You may be asked by the system to reboot 1 more time. 17. Shut down the system. Connect FC cables from other Emulex HBA to ESS storage. Ensure that the BIOS of this adapter is Disabled. Add multi-paths to ESS. Restart the system. 2.1.1.3 Limitations when booting from ESS device and Windows 2000 1. You cannot use the same HBA to boot off an ESS device and use it as a clustering adapter. This is a Microsoft physical limitation. 2. If you have adapters and reboot the system while the primary path is failed, you must manually go into the BIOS for both adapters and disable the BIOS on the first adapter and enable the BIOS on the second adapter. 3. You cannot enable the BIOS for both adapters at the same time. If you do and there is path failure on the primary adapter, the system will trap with INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE on reboot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.0 User license agreement for IBM device drivers NOTICE: PLEASE READ THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE USING THE PROGRAM AND DOCUMENTATION.
