To define a device class, first complete the following fields and then click Finish, or click Cancel to end the task.
Enter the name of the device class to be defined. The maximum length of the device class name is 30 characters.
Select the recording format to be used when writing data to media.
Drive | Specifies that #psw0# selects the highest format that can be supported by the drive on which a volume is mounted. The default is Drive. |
QIC120 | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager writes data using the DC600XTD, DC6150, DC6320, and DC6525 formats. |
QIC150 | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager writes data using the DC600XTD, DC6150, DC6320, and DC6525 formats. |
QIC525 | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager writes data using the DC6320 and DC6525 formats. |
QIC1000 | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager writes data using the DC9100 and DC9120XL formats. |
QIC2000 | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager writes data using the DC9100 and DC9120XL formats. |
Select the name of the defined library object that contains the QIC tape drives used by this device class.
Enter the maximum number of volumes that can be simultaneously mounted for the device class.
The following are possible values:
Drives | Specifies that Tivoli Storage Manager determines the mount limit based on the number of drives defined and online in the library. |
mountlimitvalue | Specify the maximum number of drives used concurrently in this device class by Tivoli Storage Manager. This value must never be allowed to exceed the number of drives that are defined and online in the library that services this device class. |
0 | The value of zero prevents new transactions from gaining access to the storage pool. |
Enter the amount of time in minutes to retain an idle volume before dismounting it.
Enter the high level qualifier of the file name that the server writes into the media labels. For each volume assigned to this device class, Tivoli Storage Manager uses this prefix to create the data set name.
Enter the estimated capacity for the volumes categorized by this device class. You do not need to specify an estimated capacity unless the drives perform data compression, or you have volumes of nonstandard size. Specify a number followed by a scale factor.
Scale factors and their meanings are:
K | Kilobyte |
M | Megabyte |
G | Gigabyte |
Enter the length of time in minutes to wait for a volume to be mounted in a manual library.
