About this Rational Service Release

This Rational service release includes important product fixes, and may include new features. It is developed for a specific product-version and does not affect the licensing of your products. Since there is no effect on licensing, the service release does not allow you to configure licensing while you apply it to the software. You will, however, be asked to accept the service release license agreement before installing.

This service release allows you to update selected IBM Rational components on your system. You do not have to find and select product-specific service releases. Because a service release is cumulative, you can apply the latest service release without applying earlier service releases. After you apply a service release, you may see new shortcuts or files. The service release updates the Rational product’s version number from, for example, 2003.06.00 to 2003.06.12. You can see the change in the "About <Rational Product> " dialog box accessed from the product’s Help menu, or in the "Rational Installed Product Information" dialog box, accessed from the Start menu.

Installing an Additional Product to an Updated System

When you install any Rational product to a system that already has had a service release applied to it, the setup program warns you that the products on your system are updated. Continue with the installation and then re-apply the service release to update the additional product.

Ensuring Version Compatibility

Before you can apply a service release, you must determine that the version of Rational products installed on your system is in accordance with the guidelines noted in the Upgrade Path section of this document. To do this:

  1. Select Start > Programs > Rational Software > Rational Software Installed Product Information
  2. Ensure that, for each Rational product listed, the Build ID (version number) is in accordance with the guidelines listed here, or remove or upgrade as follows:

  3. Continue with the service release installation

v2003.06.01 (English version only, English user interface, non-Japanese user interface) v2003.06.12 with an English user interface
Note: You can install and use the English version of Rational products on a Japanese operating system if the Rational product was not localized to Japanese.

Service Release Log File

If you want to keep a record of all installation activities for this service release, you should create a log file. If you are updating an earlier release, you should rename the previous log of installation activities before you install this service release. Otherwise, this service release will overwrite the previous one.

For information on how to do this, refer to the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products.

XDE License Management and Enforcement

If you previously installed the XDE Floating License Enablement Kit, please ignore this section. License enablement of your XDE products is unaffected by this service release.

This Service Release enables you to manage any v2003.06 IBM Rational XDE product's use of floating license keys. On those XDE installations where license management is to be enabled, first install the Service Release and then run the command "<rational_directory>\common\SetXDEFloating.exe". After running SetXDEFloating.exe, a floating license key will be required in order to use XDE.

After you configure XDE to use license keys, run the Rational License Key Administrator and point the client machine at your Rational License Server (if you have not done so already). If you do not have the license server software, you can install it from the Rational Solutions for Windows CD-Rom or download it from https://www6.software.ibm.com/reg/rational/rational-i. Refer to the IBM Rational License Management Guide on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD-Rom for instructions on installing and operating the Rational License Server.

Passport Advantage customers can obtain XDE license keys by referring to the "Proof of Entitlement" certificate that IBM sent you with your XDE product purchase. If you are not a Passport Advantage customer, you can obtain your XDE license keys from your local IBM Rational Sales Representative or from Customer Service.

When license enforcement has been activated, XDE behaves as follows:

Installation Instructions

Make sure that you have read the Getting Started and Installation Information before:

  1. Upgrading or installing as follows:

  2. Upgrading from v2003.06.10 (Japanese version)

  5. In the "Product Warnings" dialog box click Next.
  6. Click Install.
  7. At the end of the installation, the "Setup Complete" dialog box displays. If the Wizard requires a restart, click Yes to restart your computer now and complete the installation. Or, click No and restart your computer later, then click Finish.
  8. Make sure all Rational products on your computer were updated to version is v2003.06.12 (click here for instructions on accessing version information).

Note: The updated version number will appear for all Rational products, regardless of whether or not a product change was applied to them in this service release.

Applying the Rational Service Release Using a Release Area

You must recreate the release area if you want to apply this service release to the Rational products in your environment. Administrators should recreate the release area as if users  will be installing the products on their desktops for the first time. This new release area will be used to:

  1. Update Rational desktop products (as described in the Upgrade Path table).
  2. Install Rational desktop products.

After creating this new release area, we recommend that the Administrator disable the "old" release area. This will help prevent access to the previous version of Rational products and still allow access if ever the need to restore a system to the previous version of Rational products were to arise.

For instructions on creating a release area, see the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD-Rom, or online

Upgrading from a Release Area

For instructions on installing/upgrading from a release area, see the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD-Rom, or online

Note: If you are upgrading from a release area, some of the dialogs may indicate an upgrade instead of a new installation.

At the end of the installation, the "Setup Complete" dialog box displays. If the Wizard requires a restart, click Yes to restart your computer now and complete the installation. Or, click No and restart your computer later, then click Finish. Make sure all Rational products on your computer were updated to version is v2003.06.12 (click here for instructions on accessing version information).

Note: The updated version number will appear for all Rational products, regardless of whether or not a product change was applied to them in this service release.

Installing/Upgrading from a Release Area using a Silent Install

For more information, see the silent installation instructions in the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD-Rom, or online

Upgrading from v2003.06.10 (Japanese version)

Before upgrading from v2003.06.10 (Japanese version), you should first read the following sections in the Rational Suite Upgrade Guide: "Removing Rational Products" and "Upgrading Desktop Systems." Then proceed with the upgrade as follows:

  1. Back-up your data.
  2. Uninstall all v2003.06.10 Rational Suite products.
  3. Restart your system.
  4. Install v2003.06.12 of your preferred Rational product.
  5. Import your saved data. To do this, refer to the Rational Suite Upgrade Guide (look for "Upgrading Desktop Systems").

Alan Bell: Is there any info. in the Upgrade Guide or other doc that is not applicable, or wrong, as it relates to this scenario? (This came up at CCB from Fred Vaughn & Cathy Col on Jan 12). Alan Bell doesn't think so, but he is investigating who should be doing this testing to verify.

Removing a Rational Service Release

Once a service release is applied, you cannot uninstall the updates it makes from your computer. To revert to your previous Rational product configuration:

  1. Uninstall all Rational products for which the service release was applied.
  2. Install your preferred Rational product version again.

Canceling Installation of a Service Release

To cancel the installation, click Cancel at anytime during installation or before the installation completes. You will not see any visible changes to the system. The program returns your system to the state it was in before you started the installation. See the Rational Suite Upgrade Guide for more information.

For detailed, product-specific defects and limitations, read the release notes and service release notes for the product(s) of interest to you.

v2003.06.01

Product ID Description
Install RATLC00243823 The following scenario describes the expected results after installation of the service release to a system wherein the user is incrementally installing Rational products and this service release:
  1. When a user installs a Rational product (A), and then installs the service release, it is applied to the product.
  2. If (on the same system) a user installs another Rational product (B), and installs the service release again, it is reapplied to the first product, and applied to the second product.
  3. If (on the same system) a user installs another Rational product (C), and installs the service release again, it should be reapplied to all the products

Exception:

  • When the order of applying the service release is "A" then "C" then "B,"
  • And if applying the service release to  "C" requires that the user restarts their system,
  • And the product is not ClearCase, ClearCaseLT, or any Rational Suite containing ClearCaseLT .

In this case, the service release is applied to product "A" and "C" and since "B" is already at the desired version, the user restarts their system and the service release is not applied to product "B."

Install RATLC00702104 After installing one or more Rational products, stray "msiexec" processes linger in memory. Users must restart their systems before applying the service release, even if product installation does not require this.
Install RATLC00698818 Corrects a defect that causes the About box to not display the version of the product if multiple products are installed and the version of one of them does not match the others. For example, if  different versions of Rational products exist on a user's system and the user selects Help > About ... , UNKNOWN is displayed in the Version field, rather than a version number. The service release fixes this issue so that a version number is displayed, even if the user does not have the same version of different Rational products on their machine.
Install RATLC00240650 An error message appears when doing Rose Data Modeler Site Preparation.

Workaround: If you are creating an enterprise deployment (release area), and the "Launch installation using these settings" checkbox is checked, some Windows 2000 users may see the product installation start before the release area has been created, wherein, the product installation task didn't wait for the release area task to finish.

If this happens, cancel the installation, then run these two tasks separately:

  1. Run the installer to do an enterprise deployment and create a release area. Clear the "launch" checkbox. Let the process run to completion.
  2. Once the release area is created successfully, do a SitePrep install from that release area.
Install RATLC00449702 Attempting to run a newly created SQL Anywhere network service after installation may give the following error:
”A database server with that name has already started.” The service then fails to start. If this issue is encountered, do the following:
  1. In Sybase Central, right mouse click the service name and choose Properties.
  2. In the Configuration tab, change the specified server name using the “-n” parameter to a different name.
  3. Click Apply and OK to change the close the dialog.
  4. Right mouse click the service name and select Start to start the service.
Install RATLC00695603 There are two licensing pages displayed in SitePrep:
  • One within ClearCase pages (License Server - expected)
  • One within Rational Licensing Page (Rational License Server).

Ignore the FlexLM licensing page in SitePrep and custom install.

Install RATLC00698094 The original source must be available when patching or modifying an installation, otherwise a network share needs to be available containing the file.
Install RATLC00447664 When you install this service release on a multiprocessor machine, disable the additional processors before installing the service release. Consult your computer manufacturer for information on how to disable additional processors.
Documentation RATLC00059248 In general, Rational does not recommend using workstation versions of Windows operating systems for VOB or view servers because they limit the number of simultaneous connections. To help clarify content about Web servers in the Server Requirements and Recommendations table, we add that:

Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows NT Workstation do not support the Web servers associated with RequisitePro, ClearCase LT Web and ClearQuest Web. These operating systems can be used as a VOB server for ClearCase and a database server for ClearQuest, SQLAnywhere, or Microsoft Access database for a few users. A server operating system is recommended.

Documentation RATLC00698707 The material in Chapter 5 of the Rational ClearCase Product Family Installation Guide (Windows) is no longer correct. Instead, users should use the instructions in the Rational ClearCase service release Release Notes.
Documentation RATLC00698708 The "Modify/Repair/Remove" instructions for ClearCase in the Rational ClearCase Product Family Installation Guide (Windows) are no longer correct. Instead, users should follow these instructions:
  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Select Rational ClearCase from the list of programs and click Change. The Rational Setup Wizard starts.
  4. Choose one of the following options, then click OK, and follow the instructions:
  • Modify the Existing Installation - Allows you to change which products and product features are installed.
  • Repair the Existing Installation - Attempts to repair any installation that may be damaged or corrupted.
  • Remove the Existing Installation - Removes all files that you previously installed for this product.
Documentation RATLC00373918 In the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows, Table 4, Server Requirements and Recommendations incorrectly indicates that ProjectConsole supports Oracle server + Client 8.0.5, 8.1.6, and 8.1.7.

ProjectConsole supports Oracle server + Client 8.1.6 and 8.1.7, but does not support Client 8.0.5.

Documentation RATLC00373980 From the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products: On page 173, at 6c users are asked to go to Start > Rational > ProjectConsole > Serverstarup.bat.

This option no longer exists and should be removed from the documentation.
Documentation RATLC00374280 In the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows, the procedure described in Configuring the ProjectConsole Web Server and Additional Report Server and Collection Agent contains an incorrect step. Step 6c, which directs you to "Click Start > Rational Software > Rational ProjectConsole > Start Rational ProjectConsole Servers," is no longer a part of this procedure.

This step should be removed from the procedure.

Documentation RATLC00374281 In the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows, the procedure described in Viewing ProjectConsole Server Startup Error Information includes a reference to the "Tomcat ReqWeb server." Tomcat is not used with Rational ProjectConsole VERSION: 2003.06.00.

Step 3 of this procedure should state "In the right pane, right-click Rational Web Platform, ReqWeb Servlet engine, and then click Stop on the shortcut menu."

Documentation RATLC00449328 To log in to the ProjectConsole Version 2003.06 as a ProjectConsole administrator, you must enter "admin" as the user ID and "changeit" as the password. This information is not included in the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products.
Documentation RATLC00695787,  RATLC00450642 The instructions for upgrading packages for ClearQuest Version 2001A.04.10 to Version 2003.06.10 (International version) in the Rational Suite Release Notes has been updated. Users can access this upgrade from http://www.ibm.com/software/support. Search for keywords Rational 195064672
Documentation RATLC00700964 In the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows, the list for server operating systems supported for the ClearQuest MultiSite Shipping Server should state:
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Service Pack 2, 3
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server, Service Pack 2, 3
  • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Server, Service Pack 6a + SRP (Q2994444)
Documentation RATLC00452083 Some PDF versions of Rational Suite manuals on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD-Rom for  v2003.06.10 (Japanese version) display incorrect IBM Rational publication numbers. To order these books through the IBM Publications Center, please use the following publication numbers:

Documentation RATLC00699400 The following text for upgrading CC LT should be included in the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products and/or Desktop Products for upgrading from a previous release:

Upgrading From a Previous Release of ClearCase LT If you are upgrading ClearCase LT at your site:

Upgrade the Clearcase LT server first, and then upgrade the clients. In most cases, a client running an older revision of ClearCase LT software can access a server running a newer revision. A client running a newer revision of ClearCase LT software may not be able to access a server running an older revision, or may only be able to access a limited set of server capabilities.

Upgrading the Clearcase LT server does not affect VOB or view data. VOBs and views are inaccessible during the upgrade process, but checked-out files and directories may remain checked out during the upgrade.

If you are upgrading an existing ClearCase LT server, the Server Setup Wizard is not needed and does not run.

Documentation RATLC00372365 Upgrading ProjectConsole from an earlier version:
Please note the following correction on page 76 of the Rational Suite Upgrade Guide, related to upgrading ProjectConsole: Under "Restoring Saved Files from Backup," the text instructs you to restore the files you backed up from
c:\program files\rational\jakarta-tomcat\webapps\projectconsole to the same directory. Instead, restore the files to
c:\program files\rational\common\rwp\webapps\projectconsole

For instructions related to upgrades, please refer to the Rational Suite Upgrade Guide, available on the Rational Solutions for Windows Online Documentation CD.
ClearQuest RATLC00700604 Allows ClearQuest clients (Windows) to run Oracle 9i client and server using OpenLink drivers.
ProjectConsole Installation RATLC00450993 When installing Rational Suite to a network release area, the ProjectConsole Web server components should not be selected. If they are, every user who installs from that release area will get the ProjectConsole Web server components (and Rational Web Platform) software loaded and running on their computers.

In addition, when applying a service release to a 2003.06.00 Rational Suite release, you may receive one or more "Source File Not Found" warnings about files in the ...\Classics\Projects\... folder. These warnings can safely be ignored, as they are only used by the ProjectConsole Web server components when accessing the ProjectConsole sample site.

RequisitePro RATLC00703134 In certain configurations, such as Windows NT 4.0 SP6A with Security Patches, the following error may occur when associating a RequisitePro project using the Rational Administrator.

Error Number: 339
Error Description: Component mscomctl.ocx or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid

To correct this, you should manually register the file using the command prompt as follows:
C:\WINNT\system32>regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx
A success message should be displayed indicating the file was properly registered.

v2003.06.12

Note: These may also apply to Rational products v2003.06.00 (English version), v2003.06.10 (Japanese version), and/or v2003.06.01 (English version only).

Product ID Description
Documentation RATLC00450642 In the Rational Suite Release Notes for Windows, the following should be included in the section called "Upgrading Packages for ClearQuest Version 2001A.04.10 to Version 2003.06.10 (International version):"

To access the patch for ClearQuest packages, go to http://www.ibm.com/software/support. Search for keywords Rational 195064672 in the "Search software support" area of the Web page.

Documentation RATLC00449816 In the Rational Suite Release Notes for Windows, the following should be included in the "Hardware and Software Information:"
  • Rational ClearQuest supports Citrix MetaFrame and Citrix XP on all supported Windows server operating systems.
  • Rational ClearCase and ClearCase LT do not support remote sessions on Citrix XP and MetaFrame.
Documentation RATLC00059247 In the Rational Suite Release Notes for Windows, the following should be included in the "Hardware and Software Information:"
  • Rational Web Platform is supported on UNIX/Linux platforms for ClearCase Web and ClearQuest Web Java.
Documentation RATLC00241642 On page 126 of Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows, a reference is made to "http://www.rational.com/sitewide/support/technotes/." Page 126 directs users to the search facility to find "TechNote 8184 - How to access an SQL sever database in another domain". The Technote Number should be 8148 and can be found at http://www.ibm.com/software/rational/support/.
Documentation RATLC00450765 Install the Test Agents for Windows as you would install any other desktop for Windows product. Use the instructions starting on page 65 of the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows. Then refer to page 97 of the same manual for post-installation procedures as well as instructions for installing and configuring UNIX Test Agents.

The current reference to installing Windows Test Agent in the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products for Windows is wrong.

Documentation RATLC00701372 The following instructions should be included in the Installation Guide for Rational Server Products and/or for Rational Desktop Products for Windows:

Using the Post Installation Command
POST_INSTALL_CMD is used to run a process or executable, such as “winword.exe” or “cscript.exe.” When you set this property, the command is executed after the installation completes. To include arguments with the command, use POST_INSTALL_CMD_ARGS in addition to POST_INSTALL_CMD.

Before you follow the instructions in the next two sections, read these requirements:

  • Enter an arguments file in the POST_INSTALL_CMD_ARGS property.
  • If an arguments file is in an IBM Rational directory subfolder, include the path to the file.

Running post_install_cmd from the command line
To specify a command from the command line, use setup.exe’s “/V” command.
Example:
setup.exe /V”POST_INSTALL_CMD=<notepad.exe
POST_INSTALL_CMD_ARGS=<myfile.txt>

Running the command by modifying the site defaults file
To specify a command from a .dat file, add or modify properties in the Properties section of the file.  If there is no Properties section, add a section to the file.

Example:

[Properties]
POST_INSTALL_CMD=<notepad.exe>
POST_INSTALL_CMD_ARGS=<myfile.txt>

Install RATLC00447664 When you install this service release on a multiprocessor machine, disable the additional processors before installing the service release. Consult your computer manufacturer for information on how to disable additional processors.
Install RATLC00696241 When you install Rational Suite Enterprise with the Shipping Server option (from the CD), the Shipping Server installation fails. The following are options to  work-around this issue:

Note: These options are only needed after installing ClearQuest + Shipping Server from the CD. Users need to verify that ClearCase is not installed on the machine. (If ClearCase is installed, applying a work-around is not needed and work-around #3 will cause serious ClearCase issues).

Work-around #1: Install only from Suite Enterprise deployment areas.

Work-around #2: If a system will be installed using a CD and if the system will be used to run both ClearCase and ClearQuest + Shipping Server, users should install ClearCase first, then install ClearQuest + Shipping Server.

Work-around #3: If ClearCase is not installed on the system and the user installs ClearQuest + Shipping Server from the CD, after the install completes proceed as follows:

1) Verify that the Shipping Server will not work:

>shipping_server -ver
noname: Warning: Can not find a group named "clearcase".
shipping_server 2003.06.00 (<date and time>)

2) Apply the CQ_SS.reg file (contact IBM Rational Software Support), verify the shipping server works:

>shipping_server -ver
shipping_server 2003.06.00 (<date and time>)

Install / Documentation RATLC00452790 If the original Rational product was installed from a CD image (directly to a desktop or client server), the upgrade must also be done using a CD.
